Advancing Wisdom is a very personal endeavor and the work of a lifetime.
Advancing Wisdom is dedicated to the expansion of knowledge and experience.
I love learning and growth, about anything and everything. I love knowing and discussing and understanding. But for years I discounted my drive to learn. It seemed necessary for success to cease learning and instead begin to practice one, maybe two ventures skillfully. I spent three decades trying to figure out the one or two areas that said they were “mine”. And I kept failing.
In my late forties, when my two older children started college, I began to see a vague, distant form of a post-parental future. I again started to be critical that I couldn’t discover those special endeavors; this time that attitude felt wrong. I started asking myself a different question: not what should I do, but why. Do I have a purpose? What gives my life meaning? How do I want to contribute? What do I hope to achieve? I began searching for the theme that wove my diverse experiences and interests into a single tapestry, using techniques I’d learned for curious and compassionate inquiry.
The list of things I have added to my serious interests over the years is long: history; political science; law; literature; natural sciences; teaching; musical performance; philosophy; parenting; homeschooling; spirituality; photography; activism; relationships; personal growth; leadership; gardening; travel; environmentalism; public service; meditation; and yoga. I’ve also done one-off projects too numerous to count.
When I opened to seeing and understanding what was there, without the preconception to align with a perceived norm, there was an answer that unified my life into a single, passionate thread.
I want to gain wisdom, create wisdom, share wisdom. I want to explore how wisdom comes from knowledge and experience. I want to honor wisdom created on diverse paths across space and time.
I want to advance wisdom, for myself and for my community.
Welcome to my journey.
